Ice Storm 2007

OMG!
This is what we woke up to this morning!

Last night (well, early this morning around 2:30) I awoke to an amazing storm. There was thunder, lightning, sleet and freezing rain. I went back to sleep and when Dan got home around 7:30 this morning I got up to find this. He left for a bit and took some pictures of surrounding neighborhoods. It's SO much worse than it looks. It sounds like we're living in a war zone. Amazingly enough we still have power, but it's awful just watching trees fall like dominoes throughout the neighborhood. Some have fallen on houses & cars, across roads, broken benches, etc. We had a very large branch that JUST missed our house & car. You can see part of the branch in the pic above, bottom row, 3rd from left. Luckily the tree & house are coated with ice and the only part that hit was the tips of the branches, so no damage was done. But it took us over an hour to chop through the VERY LARGE branch (we don't have a chainsaw, so Dan was doing it with an axe). The girls came out to help, but, as trees & branches were continuing to fall all around us, Emilee was really freaked out and went back inside. Amanda was a HUGE help dragging the branches Dan had cut up to a pile in the backyard (don't worry, we were keeping an eye on everything and trying to stay out of harm's way. I would drag the branches to the middle of the yard, where there are no trees, and Amanda would take them to the back. She was never under any branches). Just when we thought things were getting better, and we came inside to get warmed up, another VERY LARGE branch came crashing down...so once again our driveway is blocked.

We have been so lucky that we haven't had any damage, other than to the trees. It's just amazing how much damage there is.

I did come in and make some very yummy pumpkin muffins. Those really hit the spot after working outside in the cold. YUMMY!

EDITED: Since blogger is not letting you click on an image and make it bigger, I have added a few pictures of some of the worst damage below. Hopefully this will let you see how bad it really is.
