Dr. Appt.

Kalia finally had her first doctor's appointment. It actually wasn't too bad, other than the 5 shots she had to get. Our Dr. (who we've used for the past 8 years) recommended we redo all the shots she's received in China. Her reasoning was 1) it doesn't hurt anything and 2) who knows if the shots were proper strength &/or stored correctly, thus preventing them from working. So unfortunately my poor baby ended up getting pricked 5 times, 2 in 1 leg & 3 in the other. Her poor legs are going to be so sore tomorrow.

Other than that it all went well. There was some concern (on our end only) about what looked to be a scar at the base of her spine. It actually turned out to be a sacral dimple, which she said shouldn't be any problem at all (sometimes there is a risk for tethered cord, but since the dimple is very shallow & Kalia seems to be moving fine & having no problems with bowels, it doesn't appear there will be any problems), but she would keep an eye on it. That was a HUGE relief! I was so sure there was something wrong.

Right now our darling is 21 lb. 10 oz. and 32 1/4" long....tall & skinny. The 5th percentile (on American growth charts) for weight, 25% for height.

There are no concerns yet with her developmental delays. We know she's delayed a bit, but is making progress every day. The Dr. will reevaluate her in 8 weeks to see where she's at then. If she's still quite a bit behind we may get an EI referral.

The Dr. was very pleased with the bond she's forming with Dan & I. She seems to be working towards a good attachment.

All-in-all she's doing quite well...which we're glad to hear!
