FRIDAY: We watched the Tour of Missouri come through Jefferson City around 2 p.m. (they went by less than a block from my office and our boss told us to take off and watch if we wanted.
Do I work for an awesome company or what?) I’m no cycling enthusiast, but it was pretty cool to see all those athletes racing by. The whole tour was pretty big…including tour marshals on motorbikes, Hwy. Patrol vehicles, a bunch of team vehicles (carrying extra bikes & tires, etc…), an announcer who preceded the group and let the spectators know how far back the cyclists were and the ambulances. All in all it was pretty interesting. The girls were also able to get out of classes about an hour early and line up along the street to see the racers come through our little town. All the kids made signs and everything! We live in a town of about 700 people, so this is definitely something we don’t see everyday!
After work we went to the Tour of Missouri celebration and the girls had a good time watching some of the local people have their own little mini-races. They also had a bunch of games set up for them to play and win prizes, a bounce house, and one of the local banks was giving away free popcorn, water & cotton candy. Not a bad way to kill a few hours!
SATURDAY & SUNDAY: I headed off to town Saturday to get the rest of the stuff for the girls’ room remodel. They have decided on a color scheme of orange and teal. I’ve decided to paint the walls a bright white on top and a pumpkin orange on the bottom, trimmed with brand new baseboards and divided with a new chair rail. We were able to find some pretty cool orange & teal bedspreads and teal & white curtains. Emilee has a new desk & chair, and we’re in the process of putting a new closet organizer together. I also got creative and decorated some cork boards with fabric to hang over their desks (for important notes or the all-important posters) and am getting ready to decorate some letters (spelling their names) for their walls. So far we’ve gotten the room cleared out, and Dan is going to get started painting Monday morning. We figure it should be completed by the end of the weekend. I’ve taken some “before” pics and will try to get Dan to take some as he goes along. I think it’s really going to look cool! After we get their’s all done, we can get started on the baby’s room. Not that we’re in any big hurry for that…I think we have plenty of time!
