Obsessed with Books

Yes…I believe it is an obsession.

She constantly has one in her hands. At. all. times!

Even when she sleeps.

Most kids sleep with stuffed animals or a doll. My daughter sleeps with books.

It’s gotten so bad that when she wakes up (which she does pretty much every night, somewhere between 3:30 & 5:30), she comes in our room with a book in hand. And she will NOT let it go for any reason.

Just about the only times she doesn’t have a book in her hand is when she’s in the tub or when she’s eating…and that’s only because we’ve fought with her & took it away. And it IS a fight….complete with screaming tantrums.

It’s getting old…REAL fast! And we’re a little concerned it could be a sign of something. I have no idea what, I just know that this is not normal…at least not to my thinking.

Anyone have any experience with similar obsessions? Any advice on how to handle it? We’re all ears…

  1. It may be as simple as a security "blanket" for her. There have been kids that take blankets, dolls, washcloths, ect. around everywhere they go, and this may just be something like that. If your real concerned, ask her pediatrician :)
