4th of July Celebrations

We spent the 4th of July holiday like we spend it most every year....visiting with family & playing at my sister's house.

Our holiday weekend actually started on Friday the 3rd. We arrived at my sister's around 12:30 and Dan immediately got roped into playing Phase 10. That game can go on forever, so we had to cut it short & get to grillin' some hot dogs for lunch. We enjoyed a yummy lunch of hot dogs/brats/BBQ brisket, potato salad, baked beans, chips, tomatoes & cucumbers and some watermelon, canteloupe & angel food cake with strawberries for desert. Needless to say we were stuffed for awhile!

We hung around for a bit longer, and finished the Phase 10 game, then headed back to JC to ride in the 4th of July parade. Our local FCC group enters every year...this year the theme was Stand for Forever Families. This was our first year riding (everyone rode but Dan). It was fun, but not so sure I like being on display like that. The really cool thing was that we won 1st place! How cool is that?!

As soon as the parade was over we headed back to the capitol grounds to reserve a spot for the evening's concert. This year we got to see Aaron Tippin. It was a nice concert, but he didn't play many of his older, more popular songs. He's promoting a new CD (geared toward truckers) and so he played some of his new music. Nothing wrong with it....I had just hoped to hear some of his older stuff. He did sing "Stars & Stripes" and "Kiss This", so that was cool!

Kalia did great with the day's festivities. She started getting a little crabby towards the end of the concert, but it was getting pretty late.

We didn't really do much on Saturday the 4th. We slept in a little, straightened up the house, then lazed around until around 7:00 when we headed back to the capitol to watch fireworks. We met my sister, her husband & 2 girls...walked around for a bit....grabbed a funnel cake & 2 bottles of water (for $9....ouch!)...then headed to a new spot to watch fireworks this year. One of the FCC families invited us to watch from their spot, and it was awesome. The fireworks were shot literally right in front of us. Amazing!! No pics....just trust me...they were awesome!

All-in-all it was a nice holiday! Hope yours was as well!
