What is a Dossier?

A dossier is a compilation of documents required to adopt internationally. The documents must be state certified, then authenticated at the consulate of the country you have chosen to adopt from (in our case, China). All of the documents listed below had to be collected, notorized, state certified and authenticated (there are many more documents we had to collect, but not all had to be certified/authenticated)

Here's what we had to include:

Homestudy
(an 8-10 page report detailing our family life, views on discipline, education, criminal history, our children's lives, age of child requested...basically anything you want to know about our lives to date is in this report!)
Letter to CCAA detailing why we want to adopt, the age & sex of the child requested, whether we'll accept any special needs or not (and which special needs we will accept if any), hobbies, info on biological children, etc...
Criminal Background Checks
Medical History
Financial History
Birth Certificates & Marriage Licenses
Copies of Passports
I-171H (issued by the Department of Immigration stating we are allowed to bring a child into the United States)
2 Passport Photos for each adult
6-8 photos depicting home & family

Like I said, there is a TON more, but I think this is everything that goes to CCAA. Now you know why it takes 3-6 months to compile everything!
